The Gunung Dahu Forest Project is a collaborative initiative between Komatsu and PuSTARhut under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry which has been running since 1997. The project aims to regreen degraded land through tree planting and building a sustainable ecosystem. This project uses an area of ± 250 hectares to plant ± 33 types of dipterocarp plants on two large plots as a test area for meranti planting. Of the total planting area of ± 160.7 hectares, this project divides the land into a meranti experimental plot covering an area of ± 75 hectares and a dipterocarp collection garden plot covering an area of ± 85.7 hectares.
Gunung Dahu Experimental Forest (GDEF)
The Gunung Dahu project is not only a conservation area but also a source of benefits for the world of education and research. This forest supports academic and research activities involving interns from various universities. This location is a destination for academics, scientists, and environmental practitioners to learn first-hand about land rehabilitation and forest management.
The Gunung Dahu Forest Project also provides significant ecological benefits. Initially, the land in this area was degraded. However, thanks to greening efforts, the region has now been transformed into a fresh and cool forest and helps in the absorption of carbon dioxide, which makes a positive contribution to reducing carbon emissions and combating climate change.
